Saturday 24th October

Good evening guys, this Saturday we are thinking of taking a small group of paddlers to Sowerby Bridge in the morning and running Pugneys in the afternoon.
For Soweby we can only offer this to paddlers who have demonstrated capsizing with a spray deck and we are happy with you paddling with a deck, if you don’t have a deck on here you will definitely take on a lot of water and will end up cold and likely to swim. Paddlers with own kit can also paddle with us here.
If you want to join us for Soweby please drop me a message here: club.secretary@westyorkshirecanoeclub.com  so we can assess and put a plan together.

Saturday 26th October

Events for this weekend have been added to the calendar. This week we are looking at running sessions on the river in the morning and Pugneys in the afternoon.

Sessions are being run but with limited numbers per session. To assist with social distancing measures, we will be running small sessions of no more than 5 people plus leader (in line with guidance from British Canoeing).

Morning river sessions:

Session one: 10:00 – 12:00pm                                                                                Session two: 10.15 – 12.15pm

Afternoon Pugneys sessions:

Session three: 1.15 – 3.15pm
Session four: 1.30 – 3.30pm

Changing rooms within the main building are not presently available, so please arrive at the session prepared as best as possible and be prepared to change at your car / outside. For current up-to-date information about current amenities at Pugneys, see the page below:
https://www.wakefield.gov.uk/sport-health-and-leisure/leisure-centres-and-facilities/pugneys-country-park                                                      It is NOT possible to change in our container or leave any belongings inside. Also please remember anyone – paddlers or spectators are NOT allowed past the wooden fence without a buoyancy aid – sorry there are no exceptions to this rule.

Depending on the wishes of the group and the weather, we can either paddle around the lake or stay in the sheltered area.

Costs for borrowing equipment are £6.00 for the river sessions and £8.00 per person at Pugneys, slight difference in cost due to a charge the club have to pay to Pugneys for each paddler on the lake.
