Gramps (Paul Atkins) is organising an intermediate trip on the River Leven on Sunday 31st March. This is the river that flows out of Windermere and the scenery surrounding the river is stunning – well worth a run out.
Meet up point is 9:30am at Newby Bridge (LA12 8NB) – go over the bridge, left at the Swan Hotel in front of you and left into the small road at the side of the river – there is parking on the road in a few small lay-bys.
If you wish to come along on the paddle, it is important to let Paul know asap (and before the 24th March) so he can organise sufficient cover: paul-atkins@talktalk.net
Usually this is an intermediate trip unless levels are really high then it becomes advanced (and we may cancel if levels are too big).
The plan is to meet at 9:30am, Sunday 17th March, at Linton Village car park (BD23 6BQ) then paddle down from Kilnsey to Linton Falls.
If you fancy coming along, please let me know so I can ensure we have sufficient cover available and notify you of any changes (tonythompson@pobox.com)
Cheers
Tony.
We are planning to run a beginners paddle this Sunday 10th. At the moment it is looking like we will be doing the Ure at West Tanfield. Though this does depend on water levels.
It is vital that people let us know by Fri 8th on email if they intend to come along so we can arrange the correct amount of safety cover. Please let myself monkeypaddler@hotmail.co.uk or mark on mark_wilbond@btconnect.com if you intend to come along.
***please note the trip organisers or WYCC can not be held responsible if you do not let the organisers know you are coming and you turn up when the trip has been cancelled/moved***
If you are unsure if you are up to paddling the river please get in touch for more details.
Meet up time is at 9:30, Slenningford camp site. Make sure you bring funds to pay for parking/facilities at the camp site as there is a small charge.
Cheers

WYCC Chairman
A club organised paddle of the River Calder, from Mytholmroyd to Sowerby Bridge, is planned for Sunday 3rd Feb. The paddle is being arranged by Peter Dawson and is ideal for beginners who would like to experience a good first river run with the club.
The paddle is an easy grade 2 at low levels and is intended to give some of our newer members a chance to get a first taste of paddling rivers so we encourage you to please book your slot and come along. If you are an experienced paddler, the run is still fun and interesting with a number of slides, surf waves and Sowerby Bridge at the end to play at so please help support your club.
Meet up point is here. For sat nav, HX6 2LN will get you very near to the car park. The planned meeting time is 10am.
Alternatively, if you do not know where the usual meet up point for a Sowerby Bridge paddle is, please contact Peter Dawson to get details of an alternative meet up point at 9:30am, close to the M62.
If anyone requires more info or equipment please let Peter know on the email address below.
It is IMPORTANT that people let us know that they plan on attending so we can organise sufficient numbers of competent people for safety and leadership on the river. Additionally, if the trip is cancelled due to excessive water levels, we will be able to notify you in advance and prevent a waste trip.
This is also a call to arms for some of the more competent paddlers to help provide safety on the day to complement the usual attendees – this is a good opportunity to get some experience in providing safety cover and assistance. Please let Peter know if you are able to assist.
Peter’s email address, for booking/enquiries etc is available here: Peter Dawson
The next white water practice session will be stepped up a little and is taking place at the Sowerby Bridge slalom course this coming Saturday, 1pm. Meet up point is here. For sat nav, HX6 2LN will get you very near.
Sowerby Bridge has some good grade 2 pool/drop rapids to practice on and good for surfing.
If anyone requires equipment please let Andy Walker know by email. Please ensure that you wear suitable clothing and footwear for kayaking in – no wellies, no bike helmets etc. An old pair of trainers is good – barefoot or socks will not be permitted. If you are unsure, drop us an email.
If it is going to be extremely cold, we may cancel the session so please let us know if you plan to attend so we can keep you up to date.
Cheers
This years major WYCC events now published. Keep an eye on the site for further info coming shortly.
The 2013 Washburn Calendar is available here:
http://www.vern.ws/sites/lsf/washburn/pdf/calendar.pdf
Note that the WYCC organised Washburn weekend will be held on 8th/9th June and is a great weekend for club members and family to experience rafting as well as providing an opportunity for non-members to paddle the river.
The club calendar has also been updated with the first Washburn release of the year on Sunday 27th Jan 2013 – a WYCC club Washburn paddle will be held on this date but note that this isn’t a release for the faint hearted and requires a degree of paddling ability as it can be quite challenging.
