River Calder at Healey, 20th July 2012, 6:30pm

The next summer (?!) evening club cruise will be held on Friday 20th July at 6:30pm, on the River Calder.

The aim is to do the paddle we meant to do a few weeks ago, meeting at the start at Healey WF5 8NE and paddling down to the Bombardier at Horbury Junction Industrial Estate WF4 5ER.

Bring money as we will end up in the beer garden of the Navigation pub, if it is open after the floods.

This is a good, easy river for people who fancy trying moving water and ideal for practicing your skills such as ferry gliding etc.

If anyone requires equipment please email Andy Walker before Thursday 19th July (or text/mobile 07748 111819). Please ensure that you wear suitable clothing and footwear for kayaking in – wellies are bad, barefoot or socks will not be permitted.

Spraydecks/Cags/BAs etc can be requested from Andy – let him know sizes (S/M/L etc).

It is IMPORTANT that people let us know if they plan to attend so we can ensure sufficient safety cover and also communicate any last minute changes due to water levels etc.

If you wish to come along, please confirm your attendance via email to one of these club members:

Anyone fancy a kayak surf trip to Sands End this Sunday? Meet at 10am at the parking lay-by on the right, down the hill on the way into Sands End.

If so, drop me a mail:

Must have your own gear/boat/transport (or borrow the clubs) unfortunately as I don’t have room for more than our own.

High tide is mid afternoon, wave forecast looks good.

Cheers, Tony.

Next club summer session is Friday 13th July, 6:30pm, at Sowerby Bridge slalom course. Meet up point is here. For sat nav, HX6 2LN will get you very near.

Here’s a couple of vids from our last trips there: Video Video

Sowerby Bridge has some good grade 2 pool/drop rapids to practice on, good for surfing waves etc. Bring money as we may end up in a pub/beer garden after paddling.

If anyone requires equipment please let Andy Walker know before Thursday 12th July by email or text/mobile 07748 111819. Updated with photos – Upper Tees, Mon 7th May

A non-club organised paddle on the Upper Tees is being planned for Bank Holiday Monday, 7th May. I’ve posted it here in case anyone from the club fancies coming along. If you do, please let me, TT, know via email, text or Facebook as soon as poss so any last minute changes/cancellations can be communicated.

This is a grade 3/4 run with two main features, the S-bend (or Dogleg) and Low Force (a 10-foot drop over a waterfall) with a number of smaller rapids along the way.

The meeting/put in point is just off the B6277 outside Middleton-in-Teesdale. The plan is to meet at 10am and spend a few hours on the river. There are plenty of opportunities to walk around any features you don’t fancy doing and we’ll be obviously getting out to look at the big ones prior to running and setting up safety.

Meet up point is here

Cheers

Washburn Release Sun 6th May

A few shots from the day courtesy of the Carey family…

A few members of the club are again planning to attend the Washburn release on Sunday 6th May which is being organised by White Rose Canoe Club. This is not a club event but if anyone fancies coming along, you are more than welcome to join us. As usual, you will need to have some experience of fast moving white water and be able to break in/out of eddys.

There is a cost for going on the water – £9 for adults – for the day. Bring your membership card if possible to show you are a member of WYCC (or other club) as there may be a surcharge of £4.50 if not.

The release starts at 9am and runs through until 5pm. There is no shuttle on although we ‘may’ provide our own. Food is available.

Should be a good day out – weather forecast is showing as being good and no rain. We’re aiming to be there for 9am to watch the release 🙂

Hopefully see some of you there.
