Swale, 8th Mar 2015

The next WYCC river trip is the river Swale on Sunday 8th March. If you intend to paddle, please send me an email to casper.karen@googlemail.com

Starting from Richmond falls to Catterick Bridge. It is a paddle for beginners at a level of 1 meter and below. If you’ve attended Mike’s white water sessions or other beginners trips then you should be fine.

Here’s a link to the level monitor and further details about the river: http://rainchasers.com/river/swale/richmond-catterick-bridge

Meeting time at Richmond falls is at 10am

There is a charge at the car park at Richmond falls so the idea is to leave as few vehicles there as possible obviously.

For your directions to Richmond falls, use the postcode DL10 4JR

For directions to the get out at Catterick Bridge House Hotel, use DL10 7PE.

Thanks

Karen

Saturday 21st Feb Whitewater Training

This week the whitewater training session will take place at Sowerby Bridge. This stretch of the Calder is the home of Halifax Canoe Club and the river has been developed for slalom training.

The course consists of several small weirs with large pools below making it safe for most skill levels.

The plan is to meet here: HX6 1AN in the car park around 12.45, please ensure you have the correct paddling kit and ensure you wrap up warm as we all will get quite wet (including me).

If anyone needs any kit etc. or has any questions please contact me at: ukprojects@hotmail.co.uk

Please let me know if you plan to attend just in case we need to change venue due to water levels etc.

Here you can see some of our members having a bit of fun:

Pugneys 2015 Announcement

A quick note to say that the Pugneys lake sessions will begin this year on the 11th April.

Please note that car parking charges will apply this year – the cost is £2.80 for 4 hours. There are no longer any free parking concessions for members unfortunately.

Reminder: Batley Pool Sessions

Just a reminder that Batley pool sessions are still on so if you’d like to get some practice in before Pugneys starts in early April, or fancy learning to roll before the next round of river trips, why not come along?

Non-members wishing to have an intro to kayaking are most welcome too. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

River Rothay – 25th Jan 2015

I’m planning a trip on the River Rothay, in the Lake District, on 25th Jan which will be suitable for beginners. The views are very picturesque and interestingly, we put on just up from the church where Wordsworth grave is located.

Please let me know if you are interested in attending, so I can get an idea of numbers. Here’s a link to a previous paddle some of us went on last year to check out the river for a WYCC trip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5Wjux2b2pk

Please email me at club.secretary@westyorkshirecanoeclub.com if you would like to come and I’ll circulate plans closer to the date.

Hopefully the weather will hold up and the levels will be suitable.

Thanks,

Tony.
